Indonesia

Indonesia is a country I’ve fallen in love with over the years. My first visit came during my freshman year of college while I was spending winter break in Singapore visiting my friend Lax. I learned that the island of Batam was just a short ferry ride away, so we decided to spend the day there. Despite being less than an hour from Singapore, it felt worlds apart, with quiet temples, fishing villages, and a much slower pace of life.

Over the following years, I returned to Indonesia several times, visiting Bali instead. From the rice terraces of Ubud to the cliffs of Uluwatu, it’s easy to understand why Bali has become one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. Several of my friends had also moved there, building new lives on the island. Seeing people from so many different cultures all find a sense of home in the same place made me realize that home isn’t always where you’re born. Sometimes it’s where you feel most connected.
