In the early years of my travels, I had transited through Doha’s airport several times but never had the chance to leave and explore the city. Eventually, I was able to spend a couple of days there. My university friend Ahmed, whom I’d met when we were both TEDx speakers at the University of Miami, generously showed me around Doha’s souqs, bird market, waterfront, and the city’s striking modern skyline.

A few months later, on my way back to Africa after finishing my MBA, I found myself in Doha again during a long layover. By pure coincidence, I was there on the day Morocco defeated Portugal at the FIFA World Cup, and seeing Doha’s energy during such a special moment is something I’ll never forget.
