My Experience
Leon, my German friend, and I arrived in Gabon on Christmas Eve after spending several days in Equatorial Guinea. We immediately noticed the contrast. Libreville, the capital, felt far more modern and developed than much of Central Africa, with shopping malls, well-maintained roads, and even a Pinkberry, which, after weeks on the road, felt like an unexpectedly exciting discovery.
As a predominantly Christian country, Gabon was in full Christmas spirit. Decorations and festive lights gave Libreville a warm holiday atmosphere. On Christmas Day, we took a short boat trip across the estuary to Pointe-Denis, a peaceful peninsula known for its long sandy beaches and laid-back atmosphere. Gabon wasn’t the most action-packed stop on our journey, but after some of our previous destinations, it was exactly what we needed: a chance to slow down, recharge, and enjoy one of Central Africa’s most comfortable and developed capitals before continuing our trip.
