My Experience
Mauritius felt like a completely different world from neighboring Comoros. Modern, highly developed, and built around tourism, it attracts visitors from every corner of the globe. By the time I arrived, I had spent weeks traveling through some of Africa’s most adventurous destinations, so spending a few days in a more developed, tourist-friendly country was a refreshing contrast.
I spent several days exploring all around the island, from its beaches and mountain viewpoints to its colorful Hindu temples and lively towns. I especially enjoyed seeing Mauritius’ strong Indian influence, which is reflected in everything from its cuisine to its culture and religious traditions. I was also fortunate to spend New Year’s there, making it a memorable way to begin another year of travel.
