My Experience
Namibia is a country I didn’t experience properly on my first visit. It’s famous for its dramatic desert landscapes, but with limited time and budget, I only stayed in the capital, Windhoek. The city’s German colonial influence was immediately noticeable in its architecture and atmosphere.
The experience that stayed with me most, though, was visiting the township of Katutura with a local guide. He showed me the difficult living conditions many families faced and explained that it cost around $600 to build one of the simple tin-roof homes. At the time, I was working in Miami’s nightlife industry, where people would often spend that much on a single bottle of alcohol. The contrast was impossible to ignore. It was a powerful reminder of how differently people experience the world simply because of where they’re born.
