Zambia

Victoria Falls, one of the largest and most spectacular waterfalls in the world, straddles the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, and you can simply walk across a bridge between the two countries. While staying on the Zimbabwean side, I crossed into Zambia one morning to meet my mom’s friend Gary, also from San Diego, who was there leading a pastor training program. Together, we explored the Zambian side of the falls, getting completely soaked by the spray. As we walked, Gary told me about the years he had devoted to his faith and his passion for helping others deepen theirs. I’ve always been fascinated by different religions and consider myself a spiritual person, so I enjoyed hearing about the work he was doing and the purpose he had found through it.

After the sun had set, I walked back alone across the bridge into Zimbabwe. With music playing from my phone, Victoria Falls roaring below, and the last light fading over the Zambezi River, it felt almost dreamlike. It’s one of the most magical moments I can remember from my travels.
