My Experience
I was visiting a friend on the Greek island of Corfu during the summer after my freshman year of college. Seeing how close Albania was, and that the coastal town of Sarandë was just a two-hour ferry ride away, I decided to take a day trip. I spent my time wandering along the waterfront, exploring nearby ancient sites, and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the town.
Later that afternoon, while having a drink at a café overlooking the water, I struck up a conversation with a couple who told me they were digital nomads, the first I’d ever encountered. The idea that someone could work remotely while traveling the world full-time without a permanent home was completely new to me. That encounter opened my eyes to how many different ways there were to build a meaningful life, and reminded me that no single path is right for everyone.
