My Experience
During my gap year before college, I stayed with a host family, the Wojciks, in Delray Beach, Florida. They knew I didn’t have much money at the time, so they let me rent a room from them for around $10 a night. Their daughters were competitive tennis players, and every summer the family traveled to Belgium for tournaments. That summer, they invited me to join them and stay at their home in Brussels.
To be honest, there wasn’t anything about Brussels itself that particularly stayed with me. What I remember most was the Wojcik family. Their home was full of tennis players from different countries, all welcomed with the same warmth and generosity they had shown me. I was amazed by how willing they were to open their doors to so many people simply out of kindness. The world needs more people like them.
