My Experience
On a tight budget and short on time, I visited Bosnia and Herzegovina as a day trip from Dubrovnik, Croatia. I first stopped in the majestic Kravica Waterfall, a series of cascading falls surrounded by lush greenery. From there, I continued to the iconic city of Mostar. Most visitors spend their time in the charming Old Town, browsing the small shops, eating at riverside restaurants, and gathering around Mostar’s famous Old Bridge to watch local divers leap into the Neretva River below. I stayed there briefly, but what interested me even more was wandering through the outskirts of the city.
Just a few streets away, reminders of the Bosnian War were still visible. Seeing buildings scarred by bullet holes and shrapnel gave the city a depth I never would have appreciated had I only stayed in the tourist center. Places like Mostar remind me that while the landmarks are worth seeing, understanding a destination’s history often leaves the biggest impression.
