My Experience
Vatican City, the sovereign territory of the Holy See, is the world’s smallest country but holds an incredible amount of history. I visited with my friend Max from Germany, whom I’d met through junior tennis years earlier. During my gap year before college, we had explored Amsterdam together, where ill-advised weed brownies made for a much more chaotic trip. While staying in Rome, we walked over to Vatican City to visit St. Peter’s Square and the Vatican Museums. I’m not usually much of a museum person, but even I couldn’t help but appreciate the significance of a place that has shaped so much of world history. As a fan of Angels & Demons, it was especially fun to see many of the places featured in the Tom Hanks film.
