My Experience
I still can’t quite understand how I managed to visit Baghdad before Budapest, but when you’re working your way through every country in the world, I suppose the order is bound to get a little strange. I finally reached Hungary by train from Vienna and spent the day exploring Budapest.
What I found most interesting was how different the two sides of the city felt. Buda was quieter and more polished, with the castle district overlooking the Danube, while Pest felt busier and more modern, filled with street art, cafés, and a slightly rougher edge. I also visited one of the city’s famous thermal baths, where locals and tourists relaxed together in warm pools surrounded by ornate architecture. Budapest’s contrast between old and new is what I’ll remember most. It’s a city with far more character than I expected.
