My Experience
The Netherlands gave me one of the funniest memories from my travels. Just before starting my freshman year of college, I was backpacking around Europe and met up with an old roommate from my tennis academy, Max. After wandering along Amsterdam’s picturesque canals, narrow streets, and rows of colorful historic buildings, we decided to try one of the city’s famous weed brownies after being told they were a must for first-time visitors.
We stopped at a coffee shop and bought one each. After waiting about 15 minutes, we impatiently decided they weren’t working and bought another, despite the warning from the man behind the counter. About an hour later, they both hit us at once, leaving us shaking, panicking, and wandering around the city with no idea what was going on. Eventually, we ended up sitting on the steps of our hotel lobby, staring at the walls, while the receptionist calmly reassured us we’d be fine. I got the feeling he had seen that exact situation many times before.
