My Experience
A few months before starting at the University of Miami, I met Piotr, a Polish tennis player whose career had been cut short by injury. He had built a successful business promoting nightclubs in Miami and was looking for someone to take over as he prepared to move on. He took me under his wing, and during my freshman year I learned the business from him before eventually starting my own company. That business would go on to help fund my journey to every country.
During my sophomore year, Piotr moved back home to Warsaw, where he began coaching tennis. He invited me to visit, and I stayed with him while exploring the city and seeing his new life in Poland. Over the years, I returned several times, including for his wedding. Watching one of my closest friends get married made me emotional. It was the first wedding I’d ever attended as an adult, and it reminded me how special it is to be part of the different chapters in the lives of the people you care about, no matter where in the world those chapters unfold.
