My Experience
Slovakia may be the country where I spent the least amount of money. I visited it as a day trip from Vienna, with round-trip train tickets to Bratislava costing only about $20. The city has a reputation for being a little boring, but by complete coincidence, I arrived during its annual Coronation Days festival, which celebrates Bratislava’s history as the coronation city of the Kingdom of Hungary. The streets were filled with people in period costumes, musicians, knights, and historical reenactments. What could have been a fairly ordinary day trip turned into a memorable glimpse of Slovak history.
