My Experience
Slovenia is, without doubt, one of the most underrated countries I’ve visited. Ljubljana is a charming capital, but the highlight for me was a full-day tour into the countryside. Seeing Predjama Castle, a remarkable medieval fortress built directly into the mouth of a towering cliff, was unlike anything I’d ever seen. Later that day, I arrived at Lake Bled, where a tiny church sits on an island surrounded by emerald water and the Julian Alps.
Aside from the beautiful scenery, the trip also reminded me how small the world can be. One of the people on my tour was a medical student at the University of Miami, where I had just graduated with my MBA. Some of my former classmates were now her classmates through the university’s combined MD/MBA program. Another family on the tour happened to be from my hometown of San Diego, and we even discovered we had mutual friends. People say it as a joke, but the world really is a small place.
