Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda is famous for having 365 beaches, one for every day of the year. The island is beautiful, with crystal-clear water and picturesque coves around every corner, but to be honest, it was a little slower paced than my usual style. With accommodation so expensive, I ended up staying in a less-than-ideal part of the capital, St. John’s, where I was nearly bitten by a stray dog just moments after walking out of my hotel.

Despite that, I had some unforgettable experiences. I celebrated my 75th country at Shirley Heights, one of Antigua’s most famous viewpoints, where I held up a sign marking the milestone while surrounded by live music and incredible views over the coastline. I also signed up for a snorkeling tour to swim with sea turtles. Damon, the founder of the tour company, struck up a conversation with me, and after being amazed by my goal of visiting every country in the world, he generously refused to let me pay for the tour. It was a kindness I never expected, and one I’ll always remember.
