My Experience
During my sophomore year of college, I spent a long weekend in Costa Rica. I based myself in San José, which, to be honest, left a lot to be desired. But the most memorable part of my visit had nothing to do with the city itself.
By coincidence, there was a junior tennis tournament taking place, and the daughters of the Wojcik family, who had hosted me in their home in Florida during my gap year, were there competing. It was great getting to cheer them on. While I was there, I also became friends with a Peruvian player named Ignacio. We grabbed dinner together after the tournament, and just a few years later he would become one of Peru’s greatest tennis players and compete on the ATP Tour. It’s amazing to think about the different stages of life at which we meet people, and how quickly their lives can change afterward.
After the tournament, I headed to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, where I spent the rest of the weekend enjoying the lush tropical scenery and beautiful waterfalls before flying back to Miami.
