Jamaica

At the University of Miami, I was always drawn to meeting people from different backgrounds, and one of the friends I was fortunate to make was Sofia from Jamaica. When I told her I was planning to visit, she offered to show me around her hometown of Kingston with her father.

We started the day with some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had before setting off to explore the capital together. They took me to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Bob Marley Museum, where I gained a deeper appreciation for how profoundly reggae music has shaped Jamaica’s identity and influenced cultures around the world. We finished our day at Strawberry Hill, a historic mountaintop estate nestled in the Blue Mountains and renowned for its sweeping views over Kingston. Sipping Jamaica’s famous Blue Mountain coffee while taking in the view was a wonderful memory to leave the country with.
